Project 2000

May 2002

After the success at the down stream side of the club house, its over to the other side. We need to get round the club house first of course, and this promises to be really tricky due to the limited access for the JCB.

November 2001

Things have really moved on since the last pictures in March when the backfill was going in. A great effort by lots of folk has seen the waterfront edge being brought up to the 'new' standard with rather smart safety railing, a paved edge and a 'blacktop' surface for parking. Not to mention the litter bins at strategic points along the length.

The other additions on the site are the new workshop and the new security lodge.

There's still a lot to do - so don't be shy in getting down to help out and finish the job!

Meanwhile take a look at some of the pictures.

March 2001

After suitable backfill material was found this was the scene after more hard work over the year end. There was even enough left from the backfill loads to build a 'block paving' section from the slipway!

Work had to stop when the tractor developed a fault, but he results so far are pretty impressive.

October 2000

Once the decision had been made to go ahead with an extended trial on the section down-river from the club house it was a case of designing and ordering the materials needed. Club member Barry Marshall provided the folded interlocking piling sheets at material cost only from his works in Middleton St. George and club members then painted up the individual sheets. Peter and his JCB and a healthy turn out of club members then set about the work with enthusiasm despite the weather being a bit damp sometimes! Excellent progress was made as these pictures show and the frontage now extends up to the old slipway. Mike McBride took these pictures whilst on crutches following his injuries to both heels and Paul Stephenson offered advice after his encounter with the club winch which unfortunately damaged his arm and shoulder quite badly.

Next step backfill!

Help Wanted!

For the time being at least there is a complete change of direction for the bank shoring project.

A trial section of steel plate piling is being installed just up river of the club house by Keith, Ian and Brian (with the help of Peter the JCB man). The idea is to see how this bit goes and then make a recommendation to the Committee about taking things further.

A good start was made on a bright Saturday morning, and the section put in looks very promising indeed. Backfill material now needs to be obtained and used to extend the land frontage by about 8 feet at this point. The following photos give some idea of the work done.
