Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority Limited NOTICE TO SMALL CRAFT OWNERS/MASTERS CRAFT USING RIVER TEES DOWNSTREAM OF TEES BARRAGE This notice is issued in the interests of safety of navigation and contains advice to the owners/Masters of small craft on procedures they should follow having transited the Tees Barrage and intending to proceed downstream through the jurisdiction of the Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority Limited.
Owners/Masters should contact the Port Operations Centre on Channel 14 as soon as possible after clearing the Barrage, advising the name of the craft and their intentions, and thereafter maintain a listening watch on Channel 14. 2. Craft without VHF Radio, but with a mobile telephone aboard Owners/Masters should telephone the Port Operations Centre on 01642 277205/6 as soon as possible after clearing the Barrage, advising the name of the craft and their intentions, and giving their telephone number in case future contact with them is required. 3. Craft with no communications facilities on board If at all possible Owners/Masters should telephone the Port Operations Centre on 01642 277205/6 prior to passing through the Barrage, advising the name of their craft and their intentions, including the estimated time of clearing the Barrage. ALL CRAFT should navigate as expeditiously as possible along the river, keeping to the starboard side of the buoyed channel and keeping a careful look-out for commercial shipping, in particular any that may be leaving a berth or emerging from an inset dock or dry-dock and be prepared to give way to them. SAILING CRAFT fitted with auxiliary engines should give serious consideration to using power rather than sail while proceeding downstream, while those not so fitted must realise that commercial shipping vessels, in the confines of a channel are often unable to manoeuvre efficiently or to reduce their speed quickly, and must act accordingly HARBOUR MASTER 31/05/01 |
